What to know in Forest
Forest is in the Brussels-Capital Region. Small outdoor works there follow the 2006 Regional Urban Planning Regulation (RRU), still in force, and the decree on minor works. Several municipalities add their own rules.
Local rules and grants
- Forest has its own rainwater regulation: for a new build, at least half of the garden must stay as planted open ground, and driveways, terraces and parking areas are capped at 20 m² + 20% of the rest of the unbuilt area.
- On a plot in Forest with 100 m² or more of unbuilt area, rainwater from new landscaping must soak away on site rather than go to the sewer.
- Materials matter: pavers, slabs, gravel or dolomite all count towards the hard-surface area, hence the value of a planted garden and properly sized infiltration features.
